Enhanced Odds and Price Boosts Explained

A price boost gives you bigger odds than normal on a chosen selection, usually for a small maximum stake. Here is how boosted bets are settled and what to check in the terms.

What enhanced odds are

Enhanced odds, also called price boosts or odds boosts, are selections where a bookmaker offers a bigger price than its normal one for a limited time. A team that's normally 4/1 to win might be boosted to 6/1, with a maximum stake such as £1 or £5.

Boosts are a marketing tool. They make a selection more attractive, but the outcome is no more likely to happen because the price is bigger. What changes is how much a winning bet pays.

How boosted winnings are paid

Bookmakers settle boosts in one of two ways, and the terms tell you which:

  • All in cash. The whole bet is settled at the boosted price.
  • Normal odds in cash, the extra as a free bet. The bet is settled at the normal price, and the difference between the normal and boosted winnings is added as a free bet.

Here's a worked example of a £1 bet boosted from 4/1 to 6/1:

How the boost is paid Cash returned Free bet What the boost added
All in cash £7 (£6 winnings plus £1 stake) – £2 in cash
Extra paid as a free bet £5 (£4 winnings plus £1 stake) £2 A £2 free bet

A free bet is worth less than the same amount in cash, because you usually don't get the free bet stake back when it wins. Our free bet calculator shows what a free bet returns at different odds.

Maximum stakes on boosts

Almost every boost has a maximum stake, because the boosted price is more generous than the bookmaker's normal one. Check what happens if you stake more than the maximum: some bookmakers settle the extra stake at the normal odds, while others won't accept the bet at all.

Price boosts vs acca boosts

The two sound alike but work differently:

  • A price boost increases the odds on a single selection or a set bet, usually with a small maximum stake.
  • An acca boost adds a percentage to the winnings of a qualifying accumulator, often rising with the number of selections. See acca boosts explained for a worked example.

Among our featured bookmakers, SaviBet, LuckCity and BetBlink run an Acca Super Boost on qualifying winning multiples, while BetFusion and PlayWins offer 1UP Early Payout on selected football matches.

How to judge a boost

  • Compare the boosted price with other bookmakers. A boost is only generous if the new price beats what's available elsewhere.
  • Convert it to a probability. 6/1 implies a 14.3% chance. If you think the outcome is less likely than that, the boost doesn't change that view. Our odds converter does the sums.
  • Read the settlement terms, so you know whether the extra is paid in cash or as a free bet.

If you're comparing prices for the first time, our guide to how betting odds work explains implied probability and the bookmaker's margin, and the bet calculator works out returns for you.

Frequently asked questions

Are enhanced odds worth taking?

A boost pays more than the normal price if the selection wins, but the outcome is no more likely. Compare the boosted price with other bookmakers and check how the extra winnings are paid.

What happens if I stake more than the maximum on a price boost?

It depends on the bookmaker. Some settle the extra stake at the normal odds, while others reject the bet, so check the terms first.

Are price boosts only for new customers?

Usually not. Most bookmakers offer daily price boosts to existing customers, though some are limited to certain markets or bet types.
