Acca Boosts Explained: How Boosted Accumulators Work

An acca boost adds a percentage to the winnings of a qualifying accumulator. It sounds simple, but the details decide how much it is worth. Here is how they work.

How acca boosts work

An accumulator, or acca, combines several selections into one bet, and every selection has to win. An acca boost increases the winnings of a qualifying winning acca by a percentage. The boost applies to the winnings, not to your stake, and most boosts grow with the number of selections in the bet.

A worked example

Say you place a £10 four-fold accumulator with combined decimal odds of 12.00, and your acca qualifies for a 20% boost.

Amount
Normal return (£10 × 12.00) £120
Normal winnings (return minus stake) £110
Boost (20% of £110) £22
Boosted return £142

If any one of the four selections loses, the whole acca loses and there's nothing to boost. A boost makes a winning acca pay more; it doesn't make an acca more likely to win.

    Minimum selections and odds

Acca boosts nearly always come with conditions. The common ones are:

    • A minimum number of selections, often three or more.
    • Minimum odds per selection, so very short-priced picks don't count towards the boost.
    • Eligible sports and markets, for example pre-match football only.
    • A cap on the boost, either as a maximum percentage or a maximum extra payout.
    • Cash out rules. Cashing out a boosted acca usually removes the boost.

Check each of these before you place the bet, because an acca that misses one condition is settled at normal odds.

    Acca boost vs acca insurance

    These are easy to confuse:

    • An acca boost pays extra when every selection wins.
    • Acca insurance gives you something back, usually a free bet, when all but one selection wins.

Some bookmakers offer both on the same bet; others only one. Neither changes the odds of your selections winning.

    Keeping accas in proportion

Big accas pay big prices because they rarely win. Treat the potential return as a long shot rather than an expected result, and keep your stake to an amount you're comfortable losing. Our guide to football betting explains the markets most people use in accas, and enhanced odds explained covers single-selection price boosts.

    Keep it fun

Set a budget before you play, never chase losses and take regular breaks. Gambling should never be a way to make money. Free, confidential help is available from GamCare or the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.

    Frequently asked questions

Does an acca boost increase my stake?

No. An acca boost adds a percentage to the winnings of a qualifying winning acca. Your stake is not boosted.

What is the difference between an acca boost and acca insurance?

An acca boost pays extra when every selection wins. Acca insurance usually refunds your stake as a free bet when all but one selection wins.

Can I cash out a boosted acca?

Often you can, but cashing out usually removes the boost. Check the promotion terms before you cash out.
