What is a wagering requirement?
A wagering requirement (or playthrough) is the amount you must bet before bonus funds, or winnings from free spins, can be withdrawn. It's written as a multiple: 10x wagering on a £25 bonus means £250 of bets.
Since January 2026, UK-licensed operators can't set wagering requirements higher than 10x. If an offer asks for more, it isn't from a UK-licensed site.
Bonus only, or bonus plus deposit?
Check what the multiple applies to. Wagering on the bonus only is lower than wagering on the bonus plus deposit. For spins offers, wagering usually applies to the winnings from the spins. BetFusion and PlayWins, for example, apply 1x wagering to bonus spin winnings.
Game contribution
Not every game counts fully towards wagering. Slots usually count 100%, while table and live games may count less or not at all. If a game counts 50%, you need to bet twice as much to clear the same requirement.
The average cost of clearing a bonus
Every game has a house edge, which is 100% minus its RTP. Clearing a requirement means making all those bets, so the calculator estimates the average cost: total bets × house edge. £250 of slot play at 96% RTP costs £10 on average.
That figure is a long-run average, not a prediction. In practice you could lose the bonus and your deposit, or finish ahead. It's a useful way to compare offers, and a reminder that playing through a bonus still costs money on average.
