90-Ball Bingo: Rules, Tickets and Prizes
90-ball bingo is the game most people in Britain picture when they think of bingo. Here is how the tickets work, how prizes are won and what to expect when you play online.
The 90-ball ticket
A 90-ball ticket has 3 rows and 9 columns, with 15 numbers: five in each row, and four blank squares in each row.
Each column holds numbers from its own range:
| Column | Numbers |
|---|---|
| 1st | 1 to 9 |
| 2nd | 10 to 19 |
| 3rd | 20 to 29 |
| 4th | 30 to 39 |
| 5th | 40 to 49 |
| 6th | 50 to 59 |
| 7th | 60 to 69 |
| 8th | 70 to 79 |
| 9th | 80 to 90 |
So if 47 is called, you look in the fifth column of every ticket you have.
One line, two lines and full house
A 90-ball game is played for three prizes in turn:
- One line: the first player to mark all five numbers on any one row.
- Two lines: the first to complete any two rows on the same ticket.
- Full house: the first to mark all 15 numbers on a ticket.
The game continues after each prize until the full house is won, and the full house usually carries the biggest prize. If two players complete the same prize on the same number, it's normally shared.
Buying strips of six tickets
Tickets are often sold in strips of six. A strip contains every number from 1 to 90 exactly once, so every number called marks a square on one of your six tickets.
A strip doesn't make a win more likely per ticket, but it means none of your tickets duplicate each other, and you'll always have something to mark. It costs six times the price of a single ticket, so it's worth deciding in advance how many strips you're comfortable buying.
How games run online
- You buy or pre-buy tickets before the game starts.
- Numbers are drawn by a random number generator and marked automatically.
- Your tickets are sorted so the ones closest to a win are shown first, often with "1TG" (one to go) or "2TG" (two to go) markers.
- When someone wins a prize, the game pauses briefly, announces the winner and moves on to the next prize.
Many sites still show the traditional calls as numbers come out; our bingo calls guide has the full list from 1 to 90.
